Landlord and Tenant Board
In Ontario, residential tenancies are governed by the Residential Tenancies Act, 2006. The Act sets out the rights and responsibilities of both residential landlords and tenants. The Landlord and Tenant Board allows for fair and accessible dispute resolution between most residential landlords and tenants.
Common reasons that a landlord may file with the Landlord and Tenant Board include but are not limited to the following:
Non-payment of rent
Persistent late-payment of rent
Damages to the rental unit and/or complex
Interference with the Landlord’s lawful rights and privileges
Landlord or an immediate family member requires the unit for personal use
Purchaser or an immediate family member requires the unit for personal use
Common reasons that a tenant may file with the Landlord & Tenant Board include but are not limited to the following:
Harassment and unlawful entries
Unlawful lock-out
Landlord unlawfully increased the rent
Landlord is in breach of their maintenance obligations
Landlord has served a notice of termination in bad faith
